An implant is a small biocompatible titanium screw that is inserted in the jaw to replace the root portion of a tooth. Dental implants have been shown to actually integrate with the surrounding bone to form a solid foundation for the porcelain tooth that is placed on top.
The basic steps are as follows:- A titanium screw is placed in the jawbone and left for a period of 3 to 6 months until it fuses to the bone to form a firm base.
- The screw is then uncovered and a post is attached to the now firmly established implant.
- Finally, a natural looking porcelain tooth that blends in with the natural facial characteristics is secured to the post.
